SendGrid Pricing in 2026: What the Plans Really Cost
Every plan, every limit that changes the bill, and the review data behind it.
Summary
SendGrid pricing starts at $19.95 a month for 50,000 emails on Essentials, and the free plan is now a 60-day trial capped at 100 emails a day. The cost per 1,000 emails falls from $0.90 at the Pro entry point to $0.38 at 2.5 million, but moving from Essentials to Pro at 100,000 emails triples the bill from $29.95 to $89.95. Reviewers praise the API and deliverability tooling. Billing surprises, support access and short log retention drive the complaints.
SendGrid pricing is fair at the bottom and awkward in the middle. Essentials costs $19.95 for 50,000 emails, but a team that needs a dedicated IP pays $89.95 at 100,000, three times the Essentials price for the same volume. Good value for transactional senders above 1 million emails, weaker for small teams that outgrow the entry tier.

How we audited the pricing
- Plan paid
- None. No paid plan was bought; trial terms were read from the public page
- Version tested
- Twilio.com Email API and Marketing Campaigns pricing pages, captured 28 Oct 2026
- Test period
- 2026-10-27 → 2026-10-29
This is a pricing audit, not a 30-day send test. We did not buy a SendGrid plan, so we make no claim about inbox placement or latency. On 28 October 2026 we loaded the Email API and Marketing Campaigns pricing pages on twilio.com with a live browser, captured screenshots, and copied every plan limit into a spreadsheet. We then derived cost per 1,000 emails for each breakpoint and compared it with the public pages of Resend. Customer ratings were read directly from G2, Capterra and Trustpilot on the same dates, and Reddit threads were read for recurring themes only, since Reddit has no rating.
Should you pick SendGrid on price?
YES if you...
- Teams sending 50,000 to 100,000 transactional emails a month that do not need a dedicated IP
- Senders above 1 million emails a month who can use the Pro volume curve and Premier support
- Products that already run on Twilio and want one invoice for email and SMS
NO if you...
- Teams under 10,000 emails a month: the free plan is gone and the trial is capped at 6,000 emails in total
- Startups that need a dedicated IP at 100,000 emails and cannot absorb a $60 monthly step
- Teams that need more than 7 days of searchable email logs without paying for a history add-on

Hidden costs & gotchas
- Overage fees land on the invoice for the month after the overage, and upgrading does not cancel them
- Marketing Campaigns is sold separately: Basic from $15 a month, Advanced from $60
- Email activity history beyond 3 or 7 days is a paid add-on, up to 30 days

Pros and cons of SendGrid pricing
Pros
- A low, clear entry point for transactional volume $0.40 per 1,000 emails, level with Resend Pro at $20 for 50,000.
- Unit cost falls steeply on the Pro curve From $0.90 per 1,000 at 100,000 emails to $0.38 at 2.5 million, without a sales call.
- Pro bundles the features that usually cost extra One dedicated IP, subusers and SSO are included. Resend sells a dedicated IP at $30 and SSO at $150 as add-ons.
Cons
- The Essentials to Pro step is 3.0x at the same volume At 100,000 emails the price moves from $29.95 to $89.95. Teams that only need the dedicated IP have no middle plan.
- Billing surprises are the top theme in negative reviews Trustpilot reviewers describe charges after downgrade and a disputed $16,406.54 bill after an account takeover. User claims, not verified by us.
- Short log retention unless you pay for history Searchable email activity covers 3 days on Essentials and 7 days on Pro. Debugging a bounce from last week needs an add-on.
- Support is gated and slow in the reviews we read Capterra scores customer service 3.7 out of 5, and Trustpilot reviewers report week-long waits.
Final verdict on SendGrid pricing
SendGrid pricing works well if you sit at either end of the curve. At 50,000 emails a month Essentials is a plain $19.95. Above a million, the Pro curve gets close to $0.38 per 1,000 emails without a contract.
The middle is where it hurts. At 100,000 emails the dedicated IP, subusers and SSO bundle costs $60 more than Essentials, and there is no plan in between. If your sending reputation does not need its own IP yet, stay on Essentials as long as you can.
The reviews tell the second half of the story. G2 (4.0 from 369) and Capterra (4.2 from 755) praise the API and the delivery tooling. Trustpilot (1.1 from 613) is almost entirely billing disputes and account lockouts. Read the pricing together with the support risk: set a spend alert, keep a second provider warmed, and never let a single ESP be your only path to the inbox.
We score it 6.0 out of 10. Cheap to start, fair to scale, and uncomfortable at the point where most growing products actually sit.
- Entry price 7/10 $19.95 for 50,000 emails
- Price curve at scale 6/10 $0.38 per 1,000 at 2.5M on Pro
- Billing transparency 5/10 No overage price on the plan cards
- Support access 4/10 Capterra 3.7, Trustpilot 1.1
- Deliverability tooling 8/10 Praised on G2 and Capterra
